On March 30, 1853, Vincent van Gogh was born in Zundert.
On the site of the Vincent van GoghHuis stood the old parsonage of the Dutch Reformed Congregation. This is where Vincent lived until he was sixteen years old.

The Vincent van GoghHuis in Zundert is showing the exhibition Unreliable Biographers by London artist Saskia Olde Wolbers from Sept. 16 to Dec. 26, 2023. The reason for the exhibition at the Van GoghHuis in Zundert is Van Gogh's London period at 87 Hackford Road London, now Van Gogh House London. Olde Wolbers is interested in the mythologization of Van Gogh and the place where he stayed. She is known for her unusual, surprising visual imagery and narratives.
Unreliable Biographers
The former verger's house next to the little church houses the Van GoghGalerie. Here is shown and sold works by the artists who worked as artist-in-residence in Zundert.

Behind the Van GoghHuis is a beautiful garden. Vincent played there as a child. Wander around for yourself. Around the corner you'll find the church where Vincent's father preached, the grave of his brother and namesake and Ossip Zadkine's sculpture "Vincent & Theo.
See what there is to see and do
It was in this church that the artist's father, Reverend Theodorus van Gogh, preached. Initially Vincent wanted to follow in his footsteps, but after an unsuccessful career as an evangelist in the Belgian mining region of the Borinage, he turned away from the institution of church. His later drawings and paintings, however, still testify to a deep religious awareness.
In Zundert, six sites have been designated as Van Gogh Monument and thus recognized because of the special significance they had for the life and work of Vincent van Gogh.
